FULL TIME VETERINARIAN - GSPCA

The GSPCA are looking for a full-time veterinarian to join their team - come and work on a uniquely beautiful island in the heart of the West Indies!!

The GSPCA (The Grenadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is located on the beautiful island of Grenada in the Caribbean. Located in St George's, the GSPCA is a non-profit organization and shelter. They are the only animal shelter in Grenada with the mission of rescuing and rehoming stray or abandoned animals, educating the public on responsible animal care, and providing veterinary care to animals in need. In addition to the shelter, there is a small animal clinic that attends to shelter animals, community strays, and owned animals from the general Grenadian public focusing on providing low-cost care to the community.

The clinic is currently equipped with a digital X-ray, ultrasound, chemistry blood machine, basic dental machine and gas anaesthesia. They also can send histopathology, cultures parasitology etc. to outside laboratories on the island. The clinic has volunteers (RNs, vet techs, DVM and veterinary students) visiting at various times during the year, who are all there to assist and learn.


The clinic routinely carries out spays, neuters, vaccinations, deworming, preventative care, and other general care for patients. Common conditions seen include cases of tick fever, mange (demodex and scabies), road traffic accidents, TVTs, ear infections, various mass removals and much more.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


Surgical procedures, ranging from soft tissue surgery to amputations.

Emergency care to patients of clients, as well as of the community.

Regular health consults with various ailments on dogs and cats brought to the clinic.

Health maintenance and treatment of the animals at the shelter.

Participation in community outreach vaccination and spay/neuter clinics when possible.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience in soft tissue surgery and amputations. Experience with ultrasound, X-ray, basic dental experience, emergency care, road traffic accidents, poisoning, parvovirus, and extensive wound repairs are required. Experience in veterinary medicine practised in an island setting is welcomed.
